Organochlorines can be regularly detected in our population and environment and they are directly toxic to the brain even at low levels of exposure. Yikes! What do we need to know about this and what should we do about it?
Organochlorines are an older class of pesticides that are no longer widely used in the US. They include aldrin, dieldrein, and dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT). However, they are persistent in the environment (they do not degrade) so we are all still regularly exposed. And they continue to be used in some other countries, where they can contaminate foods and textiles that may then exported to the US.
Choosing organic foods and clothing, and carbon-filtered water, are good places to start to reduce some of our exposure. But we cannot avoid exposure completely. For that reason it is so important to be mindful of daily detoxification – clean eating, ample pure water intake, exercise, sleep and detox foods and nutrients. Especially those that support our Phase II detoxification enzymes. Learn more about daily detoxification and focused detox ‘intensives’ in our quarterly healthRESET programs.
