Blood Pressure Medications Don’t Increase Risk for Severe COVID-According to New Wuhan Data Analysis

Potential good news for those with high blood pressure… taking antihypertensive medication, including ACE-inhibitors and ARBs, does not seem to increase the risk of more severe COVID-19 infection. This is based on a collective meta-analysis of group data from Wuhan, China reported in the European Heart Journal. This had previously been a potential concern since these medications also affect the route of entry of the virus into cells.

Early indications suggest that these medications may instead lower the severity of COVID-19 in those with high blood pressure, but clinical trials are needed before that can be confirmed, according to physicians at the Yale School of Medicine.
