Methylation: A New Look

Methylation Diet and Lifestyle

Methylation Diet and Lifestyle

It’s time to rethink how we support methylation.

At the same time that the US Preventive Task Force recently reaffirmed the need for women to take in 400-800 mcg/d folate before conception and during pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects, Johns Hopkins cautioned about the increased risk for autism in the offspring of mothers who have elevated folate levels.

The difference between these two messages is simply a focus on different end points.

And, research also shows that pushing methylation reactions too far may increase the risk for other diseases such as cancer and immune dysfunction.

We need to step back and take a broader, and more nuanced look at how to support folate and methylation pathways in the body. Having enough folate and supporting methylation is clearly fundamentally important, but we need to take care to consider ALL possible outcomes and find a path that supports the healthy, homeodynamic balance of methylation activity in the body.

Our new eBook is available that explains just how to do this. Many factors play a role in supporting healthy methylation, and armed with that knowledge, we can support patients in the safest and most effective way possible.
