DIY Flaxseed Hair Gel

Flaxseed Hair Gel

Flaxseed Hair Gel

We are exposed to toxins every day – through our air, our water, our personal care and household products and much more. The good news is, there is a lot we can do to limit our exposure. As a functional nutritionist I believe choosing non-toxic, clean products is just as important as clean eating. That is why I love this recipe for DIY Flaxseed Hair Gel! It uses just 2 simple ingredients, is easy to personalize and it is completely safe and chemical-free.

DIY Flaxseed Hair Gel

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Combine water and flaxseed in saucepan
  2. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 9-10 minutes until desired consistency is reached. Gel will slowly thicken the longer you simmer.
  3. Once thickened, remove from heat and strain using a fine mesh strainer into a glass jar. A canning funnel is very useful here! Allowing the mixture to strain while hot is best, using a spoon to work the gel through the strainer and into the jar. Allow the mixture to continue to strain and use a knife or spoon on the bottom of the strainer to get all the gel into your jar.
  4. Add essential oil, honey and/or Aloe Vera gel, if desired. (I love lavender and lemongrass EO).
  5. Mix and enjoy! Gel will last for ~7-10 days or longer if stored in the refrigerator.

Recipe Notes

Optional:

A few drops of your favorite essential oil
A drop or two of honey - Honey is a humectant; it seals in moisture and softens hair
1-3 tbsp of Aloe Vera Gel – Aloe will soften hair, add shine and is full of nutrients!
