Dr. Kara Fitzgerald receives the Rosalind Franklin Society Special Award in Science

Last month, I was awarded the Rosalind Franklin Society Special Award in Science for my research on using a diet and lifestyle program to favorably change DNA methylation and reverse biological aging.

I’m humbled and honored to receive this award, which is given to the top papers of the year written by women or underrepresented minorities in several health, medicine, and biotechnology scientific journals. My article “The Everyday Younger You Eating Plan”, published in Integrative and Complementary Therapies Journal (see photo below), was amongst a few select science papers to win the prestigious award.

Winners were announced in July, coinciding with Rosalind Franklin’s birthday. Rosalind was a British biophysicist and X-ray crystallographer who made critical contributions to the understanding of the fine molecular structures of DNA, RNA, viruses, coal and graphite. She’s an inspiration and a true rockstar in science!

A big thank you to the Rosalind Franklin Society for recognizing and celebrating the contributions of outstanding women in science (and promoting broadened opportunities for women).

I am also excited to continue this research and move the conversation forward.
