I’m excited to share that The Forever Strong PLAYB I’m excited to share that The Forever Strong PLAYBOOK by @drgabriellelyon officially launches next week on January 27.

This book makes a compelling, science-backed case for why skeletal muscle is central to healthy aging, metabolic resilience, and long-term vitality, not just for performance, but for longevity. It moves the conversation beyond weight and restriction and toward something far more durable: building and protecting lean mass across the lifespan.

What I appreciate most is that this isn’t a diet or a quick fix. It’s a practical framework for how to think, eat, train, and recover in a way that supports strength, energy, and independence over time.

If muscle-centric medicine is part of your clinical thinking (it should be!), this is a timely and useful resource.

Building strength is one of the most powerful, underutilized tools we have for aging well - and this book offers practical guidance on supporting muscle health day to day, even when life is busy, stressful, or imperfect.

The book is currently available for pre-order and includes over $400 in additional bonuses, including a six-week group challenge starting February 15 to help bring the plan to life with accountability and support.
Aging may be more flexible than we once believed. Aging may be more flexible than we once believed.

This pre-clinical study explores whether transient cellular reprogramming can restore youthful epigenetic patterns and improve function after injury and in models of age-related disease.

The work is authored by Vittorio Sebastiano, PhD, a colleague, friend, and past guest in our masterclasses and podcasts, alongside a multidisciplinary team investigating how short-term activation of reprogramming factors can partially “wind back” the epigenetic clock in animal models.

The findings are compelling: improved tissue function, restoration of key signaling pathways, and reversal of age-associated DNA methylation patterns without full dedifferentiation.

Important context matters:
🔬 These are pre-clinical (animal) data, not a clinical therapy.
📊 Human translation remains unknown and will require replication and rigorous safety evaluation.

Still, this work meaningfully expands how we think about aging biology: not as a fixed trajectory, but as a process shaped by modifiable signals.

This research was supported by academic and institutional funding as disclosed by the authors. No industry sponsorship or relevant conflicts of interest were reported.
I asked AI what the #1 thing to do for a long, hea I asked AI what the #1 thing to do for a long, healthy life is.

It went functional. No supplements. No biohacks. No extreme protocols.

The answer? Protect your metabolic health.

Because metabolic health quietly shapes everything: brain aging, cardiovascular risk, immune resilience, energy, mood, and how well you function as you get older.

When metabolism is supported, the body is resilient. When it’s impaired, disease risk rises across the board.

Longevity isn’t about adding years at the end. It’s about protecting function decades earlier.

Muscle is not aesthetic. It’s an organ system, an Muscle is not aesthetic.

It’s an organ system, and one of the most underappreciated levers we have for healthspan.

In the newest episode of New Frontiers in Functional Medicine, I’m joined by @drgabriellelyon, a science-forward clinician who’s changing how we think about protein, obesity, and aging through her muscle-centric medicine lens.

We get into:
➡️ Why we may have obesity wrong (hint: it’s not just body fat %)
➡️ The overlooked role of intramuscular fat in metabolic outcomes
➡️ Why muscle quality matters as much as muscle mass
➡️ Practical protein strategy: threshold dosing (not “20g per meal”)
➡️ What’s coming next: imaging, AI, and new tools for evaluating muscle health

And yes, she’s back with the Forever Strong Playbook, the practical “how-to” she says she wanted to write first.
If you care about longevity, metabolic resilience, and keeping patients (and yourself) strong over time, this one is worth your time. (Pre-order here: https://tinyurl.com/ForeverStrongPreSale)

Many people live with persistent depression despit Many people live with persistent depression despite doing “everything right.” Medications, therapy, supplements, and lifestyle changes may bring temporary relief, but symptoms often return, raising an important question: what’s being missed?

@healing.depressionproject is built around a growing body of research in metabolic psychiatry, therapeutic ketogenic nutrition, functional medicine, and trauma-informed care. Delivered through a highly structured, retreat-style 30-day program, it addresses depression as a whole-system condition rather than a single-pathway disorder.

In the most recent cohort, every participant demonstrated measurable improvement by Day 30, with 80% reaching remission or mild symptom ranges on validated clinical scales. While individual responses vary, these outcomes reflect the potential of an integrated, biology-informed approach when implemented with clinical rigor and support.

The next program begins March 1, 2026. Participation is limited to 10 individuals, and scholarships covering up to 70% of program costs are available.

For individuals or families who have been navigating depression for years without lasting results, this program may represent a meaningful shift in approach - one grounded in emerging science, careful supervision, and comprehensive support.
